Sad Justice and Life
Justice is not a happy thing, for he and she upon which the consequences are visited. But without justice, there can be no life – and life itself is a challenge.
Lori's Song
Very soon after I was brought to my sweet Lori, a profundity of the spirit required experience. It was apparently decided that a series of musical notes would explode into me while loading 27-inch TVs from 20 feet off the floor; I was working at Best Buy. I frantically wrote them down on a piece of scratch paper. And learned more of them as soon as I could. Here are some.
Alarm
Alarm is good if careful and timely.
Battlefield After
A battlefield, just after. Blasted and burnt, dirt, mixed in with bits of weapons and the dead everywhere. We are a man, walking, looking in vain for a sign of life, for anything green or moving of its own will. He pauses here and there as he sees someone or something he remembers, or wishes he remembered; he sits down every once in a while, and ponders the inevitable, and the eternal. He cries; he sighs; he is furious, and sad; but he lives.
God Is
Is God? This music did not come by human computation, human imagination, or human planning. The question begs: from where comes true goodness?
A Happy Walk of Pain
Throughout history many, and I daresay probably most, human beings have lived in pain of some kind. Pain does not always damage. There is a happy walk of pain.
Laura's Song
A number of years ago I was taking care of a friend's home; she was out of town, and had asked me to watch her house for her. So I came over one evening, checked everything out; it was all perfectly fine, except the power, because she had forgotten to pay the bill! This was originally given in the dark, at her house, playing on her old upright. I think you will like it.
The Thunderstorm
Thunderstorms are inside, as well as outside, the human soul.
Triumphal Reentry
There was a quite ordinary man named Abraham, a long time ago, who met a certain One, who was walking on two legs, with two friends also of great significance. There will come a day when that One, will return.
Joyful, Joyful
Joy is beautiful.
